Nairobi Kenya

Project Duration: One (1) Year

Partner organization: Tell a Story Foundation Uganda,

Location: Nairobi and Homabay Counties

Project Description

This initiative, led by PSI Foundation Kenya with support of Tell a Story Foundation Uganda, is an advocacy campaign aimed at promoting social inclusion of disadvantaged groups including persons with disabilities and young people (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) the grassroot women and children with focus on (Out of School Children).

Why story telling for inclusion

We believe that poverty and marginalization are key drivers of exclusion in communities. We therefore work together with communities to end the injustice of poverty that causes social exclusion of disadvantaged persons in development and democracy. We champion for inclusion of the rights, well-being and perspective of disadvantaged persons with disabilities, women and youths in development efforts. To do this better, we have embraced the art of storytelling to help these groups amplify their voices and speak up on issues that affect them.

The rationale for story telling community forums

According to Tell a story Foundation mantra, People matter and so do their stories. The proposed story telling community forums will be a safe space that gives community members opportunity to speak up without being judged. The sessions will be organized as interactive storytelling forums where groups of 15 to 20 participants share personal experiences based on suggested themes and connect them to the broader goal of promoting social inclusion.  The event will be held in safe community spaces such as churches, libraries, schools, or community centers. The rationale behind these forums is to address the negative attitudes that community members often face based on age, gender, or disability, and to highlight how such biases hinder social inclusion.

Monthly Tell A story Sessions

Promoters of Social Inclusion with the support of Tell a Story Foundation, will be hosting its monthly Tell A story Session; a thought-provoking story telling session with 20 young people in Nairobi Kenya.  The story telling session will be based on the theme for the month.
