Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)
In Kenya, Persons with disabilities constitute 2.2% (0.9M) of Kenya’s population, with women making up 57% (523,883), of all persons with disabilities. The common types of disability are mobility (42%), followed by visual (36.4%), cognition (23.2%), hearing (16.7%), self-care (15.3%) and communication (12.1%). More than 80% of persons with disabilities live in rural areas (KPHC report, 2019). PSI Foundations works towards inclusion Persons with disabilities in development and democracy. To do this PSI Foundation adopt the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) model. We conduct deliberative workshops for capacity development of the community with persons with disabilities and their families, caregivers, community leaders, PWD committee members, and other community members on basic and practical knowledge and skills on identification and prevention of disability, functional rehabilitation, awards raising, among others.
Women
Women in Kenya currently have only 81% of the legal rights enjoyed by men. This disparity underscores broader issues affecting women’s roles in entrepreneurship, parenthood, and asset ownership. (Source word Bank). At PSI Foundation, we are committed to supporting the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) approach. We empower women together with their families. We encourage women to raise their voices at communities not only in matters concerning development but also matters concerning leadership and political participation.

Youths
The population in Kenya is projected to be 63.9 million with 22.3 million aged 15-34 years by 2030 thus making us a youthful country. Sadly, NEET rate stands at 18.73% which means that nearly 19% of young people in Kenya that are not currently employed, educated, or undergoing training. To address this, PSI Foundation youth’s empowerment programs aim develop a Transformative Life Skills, Education and Job Activation Programme for Young People. Our deliberative workshops for youths will supports young people with a step-by-step, staged educational approach incorporating a range of innovative topics that are aligned to their needs.

Children
PSI Foundation believe in the inclusion of children therefore we support child-centered and child-friendly approaches in our work. We believe that children too should be engaged as stakeholders in all key activities affecting them. As an organization we work with partners to capacitate them on child rights and protection policy related issues. We also champion for the child democratic rights. We are keen on promoting the rights of children with special needs and disabilities.
